The vision of MonkCraft

is to become a place where nuns, monks and serious lay practitioners can practice and work in an environment supportive of and oriented towards spiritual awakening and development. MonkCraft works to create joy producing recreation products (kayaks, and teardrop trailers coming soon) and living goods for people, thus generating the needed funds to support life dedicated spiritual practitioners. This is what Buddhists call right livelihood. It is difficult in the West for dedicated spiritual practitioners to find housing, food and most importantly, health care when they are not independently wealthy. The dharma not just for the wealthy, but for all. It is my long term goal to help provide the means for people to dedicate their lives to spiritual practice and have the means to do so through being involved with the activities of MonkCraft.

The Monk Behind MonkCraft

Monkcraft Kayaks are built by Brother Lodro Dawa (Gregory S. Walker) of Portland Oregon. I am an ordained monk in the Tibetan tradition. Proceeds from building these kayaks support my spiritual practice, education and meditation retreats, as well as develop MonkCraft to a point where it can support other serious practitioners. I am a simple monk who values his fellow humanity and the earth in which he lives. Building these wonderful kayaks is a wonderful mindfulness practice, and is one way I offer happiness and joy to others. You can feel good about supporting spiritual practice and peace with your purchase of a Monkcraft Kayak, and having a boat built with mindfulness and compassion.
