INTRODUCING THE
NEW GREENLAND SKIN ON FRAME KIT!
|
| Finally there is an
option between building from scratch and buying a completed kayak. |
|
|
Why
skin on frame? On the water, there is nothing like the lively feel of a skin boat
silently gliding through the chop and how one can feel the waves through the
skin as the frame subtly dances and reacts wonderfully to each wave. It
feels like you are part of the water. They feel organic and alive! These qualities
make for a much more intimate experience between you and the water.
Compare the experience of a hand build
skin kayak and a commercial boat, and your heart will be lost to the skin
boat.
They truly are the thoroughbred of kayaks with 3,000 years of real life
R&D behind them in Greenland.

For people who want to build a
Greenland skin on frame kayak, there is now an option between building
from scratch and buying a completed kayak from a builder. MonkCraft’s
Greenland kayak kits are just like my completed SOF kayaks in design,
performance, quality and
aesthetic appeal. These kits are also fully customized and tailor
fitted to your body and uses for the kayak. The frame construction
is classic Greenland skin on frame technology with strength giving
lashed joints, wood pegs and steam bent oak ribs. No longer must you
build kits from plywood and epoxy.

The kit comes with everything you need,
including a fully illustrated and very detailed assembly manual and
technical support if you get stuck. To complete the kayak little
woodworking is required. The gunwales are milled to shape, mortised,
marked and pre-drilled for the deck beams and ready to go. The deck
beams are cut and ready to install, as are the pre-bent ribs. The stems,
coaming and all others parts are ready for assembly. Once you have
completed the frame, you’ll skin it, dye and shrink the skin, apply
the polyurethane and fit out the kayak. This kit is designed so that you
can built it in your living room if necessary and will take only 30 to
40 hours to complete. Only simple ordinary tools are required.
So,
if the steep learning curve, material sourcing and tool investment
required to build a skin kayak from scratch is too much, or buying a
completed kayak is too easy or expensive, a MonkCraft Greenland kayak
kit is the way to go.
Whether you decide to buy a completed
kayak or a kayak kit, with a Monkcraft
Kayak, you will enjoy the pleasure of owning a very special, unique
and gorgeous limited production kayak built to order just for you. All
for a reasonable price. It is with great respect and pleasure that I
help continue the tradition of the Greenland skin kayaks into our modern
era.
