Greenland Sea Kayak Building Classes:

Monkcraft Kayaks also offers classes in Portland, Oregon, to build your own Greenland skin-on-frame sea kayak. These one month long, small intimate classes of one to four students include all materials, personal instructions and all the tools you will need. No previous woodworking experience is necessary. Riley, to the right, is 16 years old and built a great kayak with no previous woodworking experience. I make building easy. Greenland paddle building class are also available. I have a large shop with plenty of space and a full compliment of professional grade woodworking tools as your disposal. Students tell me they have a lot of fun and learn a lot in these classes.

 
The classes are held at my shop near SE Stark and MLK blvd over a one or two month period on Saturdays from 12pm to 8pm and Mondays from 5pm to 9pm. Alternate schedules can be arranged. You can start building your kayak on any Saturday you choose.  Nearly all the work can be completed during class times. It is my goal to make the process fun and stress free, and to make it possible for people to build a kayak around their work schedule without having to use precious vacation time. It's better to use vacation time for paddling your new kayak!
